IU Southeast the 2015 KIAC Women's Tennis favorite
FLORENCE, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2015) – IU Southeast was chosen as the team to beat in the 2015 KIAC Women's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll unveiled by the conference office on Friday.
The Grenadiers received four of the six first-place votes and totaled 24 of out of a possible 25 points in the voting. The poll was conducted with voting from the six KIAC women's tennis head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.
IU Southeast was the top seed in the 2014 KIAC Women's Tennis Tournament and reached the finals. There, the Grenadiers lost to non-KIAC team Ashford (Iowa), 5-4, but was the top placing KIAC team in the unaffiliated national qualifying tournament.
Brescia (Ky.) University, the No. 2 tournament seed from a year ago, is predicted second this year with 21 points and the other two first-place votes. The Bearcats fell to Ashford in the semifinals of the 2014 playoffs.
Next in the poll is Asbury (Ky.) University, a 2014 semifinalist, with 18 points. The next three teams are IU East (12 points), Carlow (Pa.) (10 points) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) (5 points).
The 2015 KIAC women's tennis season begins Aug. 29. The KIAC Women's Tennis Tournament will be held Oct. 23-24 in Owesnboro, Ky., and hosted by Brescia (Ky.). The KIAC Tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship May 17-21 in Mobile, Ala.
