GALLIPOLIS, Ohio - University of Rio Grande athletic department staff members and their families enjoyed the opportunity to interact with each other outside of the typical office setting on Thursday night.
The group came together at Skyline Lanes for a night of food and some friendly bowling competition.
"We view the athletic department as a team and our event tonight was a fantastic team builder," said Rio Grande athletic director Jeff Lanham. "We had coaches, family, and administrators participating. This was the definition of Rio Family."

Dr. Michelle Johnston, President of the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College, also participated in the bowling, while Paul Harrison, the school's Executive Vice President and Vice President for Institutional Advancement, was also in attendance.
"It was a great night to interact with one another outside our daily environment," men's basketball head coach Ken French added. "We have so many special people who coach at Rio. It's always nice to be around them and their families."
More than 40 people took part in the outing, including 16 staff members.
"It was a great night of fellowship fun for everyone," said women's basketball head coach David Smalley. "It was another example of the many things we do within the community, not only as individual programs, but the department as a whole. Those of us in the athletic department were the beneficiaries this time around."
Lanham said he hopes to orchestrate future outings for the Rio athletic staff.
"The Athletic Department would like to thank Brett Little and Skyline Lanes for the sponsorship of food, bowling and a great time," he said. "There was a little competition at the lanes and a ton of comradery among everyone present. What a great night for Rio Athletics. This is what athletics is all about."
