Rio's Paulino chosen KIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande forward Willian Paulino led a prolific week of offense for the RedStorm and was chosen as the KIAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played Aug. 24-30, announced the conference office on Monday (Aug. 31).
Paulino, a 5-11 junior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, posted two goals, four assists and eight points in two games for NAIA No. 5-ranked Rio Grande (3-0). He tallied two goals, including the game-winner, in a 4-0 win over St. Xavier (Ill.). He also scored early in the second half to put the game away, 3-0.
He followed that up with four assists in a 10-1 victory over St. Francis (Ind.). That gave him four goals, four assists and 12 points in just three games thus far this year.
Rio Grande brings its 3-0 record to its Rio Grande Soccer Classic Sept. 4-5, which will include No. 8 Vanguard (Calif.), receiving-votes Point Park (Pa.) and Westmont (Calif.). Rio Grande will face Westmont on Sept. 4 and No. 8 Vanguard on Sept. 5.
