IUK's Sandmann picks up KIAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week honor

FLORENCE, Ky. -- IU Kokomo freshman Nicole Sandmann led the Cougars' attack this past week and picked up the KIAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week honor, announced the conference office on Monday (Aug. 31). Sandmann, a 6-0 middle hitter from West Harrison, Ind., wins the award for her strong play Aug. 24-30.

Sandmann put up 53 kills in five matches to average double-digit kills for the week. The Cougars (9-1) went 5-0 on the week, including a 4-0 mark at the Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) Classic. Sandmann hit .314 for the week and saved her best for the LWC Classic. Her .375 attack percentage for the weekend was the third-best of any player in the 16-team event.

She had a week-high 15 kills versus Brenau (Ga.). She had 11 kills and just two errors versus Dalton State (Ga.) and 11 kills and zero errors versus Cumberland (Tenn.). Sandmann also posted 20 total blocks (three solo) for the week.

Note: The NAIA has amended its Volleyball Player of the Week awards this year to recognize more players. The KIAC has also adopted the change, which will name weekly an Attacker of the Week, Setter of the Week and Defender of the Week.
