NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- An important matchup for positioning in the KIAC Capital Division takes center stage in the KIAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week with Brescia (Ky.) University at Indiana University Southeast on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m.

Brescia enters the game at 6-2 KIAC for second place in the division. The Bearcats have won four of their last five and two in a row to improve their record to 11-10 overall and just 0.5 games behind Asbury (Ky.) for first place in the division. Brescia won at Cincinnati Christian, 75-71, on Thursday.

IU Southeast is coming off an overtime win at home over IU Kokomo on Thursday night, 63-62, which bumped the Grenadiers' record to 7-8 overall, 4-2 KIAC and just one game behind Brescia in third place. Another chance to further climb the divisional race lies ahead with Brescia not only standing in the way but wanting to keep pace for first place in its own right.

Brescia is among the offensive leaders in the conference with 75 points per game to rank third in the KIAC. The Bearcats lead the KIAC with 183 made 3-point field goals and are ninth in the nation with 8.7 made 3-pointers per game.

IU Southeast counters with a tough defense that leads the KIAC in field-goal percentage defense at .350. The Grenadiers are also the top rebounding team in the conference at 45.9 rpg. They are 13th in the nation in field-goal defense, seventh in rebounding and sixth in blocks per game (5.2 bpg).

It is a matchup of two of the top guards in the KIAC with Brescia's Julie Whitfill leading the KIAC in scoring at 22.0 ppg. IU Southeast's Annie Thomas is third in the conference at 18.3 ppg.

Brescia has three players averaging double digits with Haley Cook (13.3 ppg) and Kelsey Kirkpatrick (10.5 ppg). IU Southeast has a strong inside presence with Mary Dye (13.3 ppg, 9.9 rpg) and Jocelyn Mousty (11.1, 10.3 rpg) coming in with double-double averages.
