KIAC MBB Player of the Week: D.D. Joiner (Rio Grande)
FLORENCE, Ky. -- The University of Rio Grande guard D.D. Joiner had a huge week to earn KIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades from Dec. 28 to Jan. 3.
Joiner, a 6-4 senior from Columbus, Ohio, averaged 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in two victories for Rio Grande. He shot 54 percent from the field and made 10 of 17 3-pointers for 58 percent.
Joiner had 35 points and a career-high nine 3-pointers to lead a 117-114 win over Point Park on Jan. 3. He added 13 rebounds and four assists in that game. His nine treys came in 15 attempts. The week started with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists in an 86-78 win at Ohio Christian, the KIAC opener for Rio Grande.
Rio Grande is now 12-4 overall and 2-0 KIAC. The RedStorm is receiving votes in the NAIA Division II Top 25 and resumes KIAC play at home versus IU Kokomo on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
