Reyes, a 1983 graduate of Asbury (Ky.) College, comes to Brescia University after a diverse career that includes 10 years as a tennis professional followed by 18 years of service in the United States Army, including tours in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom and in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"I am looking forward in working with Coach Reyes in his new role as Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach here at Brescia University," said Brian Skorts, Brescia Athletic Director. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a coach and will serve our students well in his capacity as head coach of our tennis programs.
"We are excited in having Coach Reyes a part of our Brescia University Athletic Department."
Reyes was a tennis professional at several clubs and tennis centers, including WildeWood Country Club (Columbia, S.C.), Windmill Harbour Plantation (Hilton Head Island, S.C.), Team South Tennis (Lexington, Ky.), Indigo Lakes Tennis Center (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Orange Park Country Club (Orange Park, Fla.) prior to joining the military.
He most recently was part of the professional staff at Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Academy, where he was involved in coaching and mentoring the academy athletes.
A Senior Medic in the 5th Special Forces Group based out of Fort Campbell, Tenn., Reyes served in Afghanistan from October 2001 to February, 2002 then served in Iraq from January 2003 to September 2004.
He is a graduate of the Airborne School at Fort Benning, the Special Operation Medical Sergeant Course, and the Arabic Language School and SERE School at Fort Bragg, from where he graduated from Special Forces Selection and Assessment in April, 1997.
Reyes did his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri in the summer of 1996, and his first assignment was at the U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory at Fort Rucker, Alabama from February, 1997 to December, 1998.
He earned a master of science degree in exercise physiology from the University of South Carolina in 1989, and has taken classes in the doctoral program in nutritional sciences at the University of Kentucky .
Reyes is a USPTA tennis professional, a National Registry paramedic, and a U.S. Tennis Association clinician in sports medicine.
"Since my years as a student athlete at Asbury University I have had the desire and wanted the opportunity to coach and teach at a similar type of quality institution," said coach Reyes. "I am profoundly grateful the Lord almighty has led me to Brescia University. I am honored to be a part of the Brescia University coaching staff and am looking forward to the opportunity to challenge young people as they seek to honor the Lord in their pursuit of excellence."
