OWENSBORO, Ky. -- The top two teams in the KIAC Capital Division square off in the KIAC Women's Basketball Game of the Week with Asbury (Ky.) University at Brescia (Ky.) University on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. ET in Owensboro, Ky.

Asbury (9-7, 5-0 KIAC) leads the KIAC Capital Division with an unbeaten conference record at 5-0 KIAC. Brescia (9-10, 4-2 KIAC) is just 1.5 games behind and in second place at 4-2. No other team in the division has more than two conference wins as the Eagles and Bearcats have asserted control of the division in the early part of the KIAC schedule.

Asbury has won three in a row and is coming off an 85-72 home win over IU Southeast in its last game Jan. 5. Brescia had its two-game win streak snapped with a 59-49 loss at Ohio Christian on Jan. 7. The Bearcats had beaten Alice Lloyd and Midway before that.

Asbury and Brescia are dead even in terms of scoring offense -- they both average 75.0 ppg to tie for second in the conference and 21st in NAIA Division II. The teams are also very similar in scoring defense as Brescia gives up 70.32 ppg to rank eighth in the KIAC, just above Asbury at 70.44 ppg.

Brescia boasts the leading scorer in the KIAC with senior guard Julie Whitfill averaging 20.6 ppg. She also leads the conference with 63 made 3-point field goals, 22 more than anyone else. Guard Haley Cook is second on the team at 13.4 ppg.

Asbury also has two of the top scorers in the KIAC with guards Catie Fletcher (16.4 ppg) and Brittany Warren (14.5 ppg) ranking fifth and sixth in the conference in scoring.

The first of two meetings between the teams this year, Brescia will visit Asbury on Jan. 26.
