Point Park rallies to win RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview in playoff over WVU Tech
FINAL RESULTS
UNION, Ky. -- Point Park (Pa.) University rallied from 10 shots back and then won in a playoff over WVU Tech to claim the team title Tuesday at the River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview Tournament held at Lassing Pointe Golf Course.
The Pioneers shot 291 in the final round to comeback over the final 18 holes. Point Park and WVU Tech were tied after the completion of the 54 holes of regulation. A playoff was needed to decide things, and the Pioneers came out on top.
Point Park's Max Kaminsky (74-73-71) won the individual medalist title by five shots over Taylor Suggs (77-73-73) of Cincinnati Christian and Braden Keown (81-70-72) of WVU Tech. Kaminsky had a total of of 5-over 218 while Suggs and Keown shot 10-over 223.
WVU Tech built a four-shot lead over Brescia after Monday's 36 holes were completed. Brescia ended up in third place, and Asbury and first-round leader Ohio Christian tied for fourth. Click the results link above for the final leaderboard in the team and individual standings.
Point Park's team title came with an opening 320, which put the Pioneers in sixth place after 18 holes. The Pioneers followed that up with a 308 to get within 10 shots of the lead. Point Park then put together a 291 in the final round with Gino DiPardo at 70, Kaminsky at 71 and Jared Bender and Gage Basiletti at 75.
WVU Tech shot another solid team score of 301 in the final round led by Keown's 72 and Jayden Dignan's 73. But it came down to the Pioneers and Golden Bears being in a dead heat after 54 holes.
The RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview serves as a preview to the conference championship tournament, which will be held April 17-18 at the same site of Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. The team champion at that event will qualify for the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship May 16-19 at TPC Deere Run in Moline, Ill.
