FLORENCE, Ky. -- Point Park (Pa.) University junior Katie Guarnaccia returned to action and won the River States Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award for Oct. 3-9.

Guarnaccia, from Pittsburgh, Pa., claimed fourth place of 111 runners at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational with a time of 19 minutes, 19 seconds in the 5K-race. It was the first race since Sept. 2 for the 2015 conference champion, whose class obligations have kept her from traveling to meets out of town.

Muddy conditions slowed down the times, but she was able to finish high behind only Chelsie Poole of Seton Hill (18:18) and a couple of runners from the University of Pittsburgh. It is the second time this year that Guarnaccia won the runner of the week honor.

Point Park's next race is scheduled for Oct. 21 at the Lebanon Valley Last Chance Run Fast Invitational.
