WVU Tech's Dean earns RSC Volleyball Defender of the Week Oct. 10-16
FLORENCE, Ky. -- WVU Tech's Michala Dean led the defense in a successful week for the Golden Bears and earned River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for Oct. 10-16.
Dean, a senior from Algoma, Wisc., collected 77 total digs in four matches to lead WVU Tech to a 3-0 record, all of which came in RSC action. The Golden Bears are now 17-12 overall, 5-5 RSC after wins over Ohio Christian (3-0), IU East (3-2) and at Ohio Christian (3-0).
Dean had a week-high 34 digs in the win at OCU. She had 22 digs in the win over IU East and another 21 in the home win over OCU. For the year, Dean leads the conference with 486 digs, and she ranks 29th in the NAIA in that category.
She averaged 5.92 digs per set on the week. WVU Tech is currently in third place in the RSC East Division and has its next match Oct. 18 at Alice Lloyd for a non-conference match.
