CCU's Abel picks up RSC Volleyball Setter of the Week honors

FLORENCE, Ky. -- Ellie Abel of Cincinnati Christian University led the Eagles to a 3-1 record last week to earn River States Conference Volleyball Setter of the Week honors for Oct. 17-23.

Abel, a 5-6 senior from Trafalgar, Ind., piled up 172 assists in four matches for an average of 10.75 assists per set. She also compiled 63 total digs for 3.94 per set, eight total kills and a hitting percentage of .304.

Abel's week was highlighted with a school-record 60 assists in a 3-2 win over Rio Grande. She also had a week-high 23 digs in that match. Another big match had 52 digs versus Oakland City.

CCU bumped its record up to 13-8 overall, 5-5 RSC with Abel picking up 27 assists and 13 digs in a win over WVU Tech and 33 assists and 14 digs in a loss to IU Kokomo. Abel ranks second in the conference and 45th in the nation with 9.2 assists per set.

CCU hosts Midway (Ky.) for its next match Oct. 25.
