#RSCgotw Volleyball: IU Southeast Sweeps IU East In RSC Game of the Week
OWENSBORO, Ky. – IU Southeast swept IU East, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19,on Saturday in the River States Conference Game of the Week as part of a quad-match hosted by Brescia University.
The Grenadiers (15-6, 8-0 RSC) were able to jump out to comfortable leads in each of the three sets.
After taking the first set, IU Southeast jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second frame. The Red Wolves cut the lead to 9-7 before Monica Loftus responded with a kill to end the run. Loftus would end the second set with another kill and gave the Grenadiers a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, IU Southeast jumped out to a 5-0 lead but once again IU East rallied to make it an 8-6 deficit. The Grenadiers answered by taking four of the next six points, highlighted with a kill from Mary Dye.
The Grenadiers had 43 total kills from seven different players. Sophomores Hannah Joly and Monica Loftus each had nine kills to pace IU Southeast. Katie Fisher added eight and Mary Dye and Kelsey Willinger each had six kills. Dye had three solo blocks and Willinger had a pair to slow the IU East attack.
Natalie Keene had 20 digs to lead the Grenadiers and made some big plays to keep points off the board for the Red Wolves.
Later in day, IU Southeast defeated Ohio Christian in four sets to extend their winning streak to 11 matches, their longest win streak in since 2005.
IU Southeast hosts Midway University Tuesday at 7 p.m. while IU East is off until next Saturday when they travel to Ohio Christian to take on West Virginia Tech and Rio Grande.
