FLORENCE, Ky. – The River States Conference women's hoops season is well underway, and the RSC Women's Basketball Weekly Report – Week 1 (Dec. 1) catches you up to speed on women's basketball action in the conference thus far.
RSC IN NAIA DII TOP 25 POLL
The River States Conference has two teams mentioned in the NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll (Nov. 29) with IU East (5-3) coming in at No. 17 in the country and Asbury "receiving votes" at No. 31 overall. IU East has two Top 25 wins to move up from being just outside the rankings at No. 26 in the preseason. Asbury picked up a win over No. 24 Milligan (Tenn.) Nov. 27 to gain mention in the votes.
PRE-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
Although there have been a few RSC contests thus far, most of the action has in the pre-conference schedule to date. Heading into the weekend, 11 of the 13 RSC teams have their overall records at .500 or better.
Of the early RSC games in the books, IU Southeast is off to a 2-0 RSC record to lead the RSC West Division. The Grenadiers are 6-2 overall. Likewise, Ohio Christian is also 6-2 overall and leads the RSC East Division in the early going at 1-0 conference.
Carlow is the only remaining unbeaten team after the first month at 4-0. Point Park has won seven in a row to push its record to 9-1 overall.
NOTABLE WINS
Notable wins for RSC women's basketball teams this year include IU East's Top 25 victories over then-No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan and then-No. 11 Goshen in early November. WVU Tech is 6-3 overall and has wins over NCAA Division I Longwood (Va.) of the Big South Conference and NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan as part of its six-game win streak. Asbury has a win over then-No. 24 Milligan (Tenn.) as previously mentioned.
THIS WEEK IN THE RSC SO FAR
The early part of this week had some RSC action on Tuesday night with IU Southeast earning a 71-66 home win over Midway and Cincinnati Christian beating Alice Lloyd, 80-60. Thursday night's game had IU Kokomo knock off (RV) Asbury, 82-75, at home and IU Southeast win at Brescia, 90-59.
RSC WEEKEND SCHEDULE
RSC play begins in full force this weekend with eight total games on Friday and Saturday. Things get started on Friday night in Pittsburgh with two games and continues Saturday with six RSC matchups, the first full day of conference action.
Friday night's schedule has Rio Grande at Point Park (5:30 p.m.) and WVU Tech at Carlow (6 p.m.). RSC East Division play on Saturday includes WVU Tech at Point Park (12 p.m.), Rio Grande at Carlow (1 p.m.) and Ohio Christian at No. 17 IU East (3 p.m.).
RSC West Division contests on Saturday feature (RV) Asbury at Cincinnati Christian (1 p.m.), Alice Lloyd at IU Kokomo (1 p.m.) and Midway at Brescia (2 p.m.).
COVERAGE THIS WEEKEND

RSC INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Asbury's Oney Harrison leads the conference in scoring at 18.6 ppg, and teammate Brittany Warren is third at 15.4 ppg. IU East's Tia King ranks second in the RSC at 16.1 ppg.
Carlow's Emma Stille leads the league in rebounding at 12.0 rpg followed by Asbury's Kali Whiteside at 11.6 rpg. IU Southeast's Annie Thomas leads the conference in assists at 5.8 apg. Shelbi Samsil of Brescia has made a league-high 34 treys and also leads at 3.78 made 3-pointers per game.
RSC TEAM LEADERS
IU Southeast leads the conference in the three big categories of points, rebounds and assists. The Grenadiers average 81.0 points per game (10th in NAIA DII), 45.1 rebounds per game and 16.7 assists per game.
Rio Grande and Midway are next in scoring offense at 79.6 ppg each. The RSC has the top two scoring defenses in the country with Carlow (47.2 ppg) and Point Park (48.5 ppg) ranking No. 1-2 in NAIA DII and leading the conference.
