KIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week: JaQuan Lavender (Point Park)
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Point Park (Pa.) University sophomore JaQuan Lavender closed in on the NAIA indoor national qualifying standard in the 400 meters to earn KIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week accolades for Feb. 1-7.
Lavender, from Steubenville, Ohio, placed eighth at the SPIRE Indoor Team Challenge in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 50.37 seconds. His time is now less than one second away from the NAIA qualifying mark of 49.90 seconds.
Lavender also anchored the Pioneers' 4x400 relay team that placed third with a school record of 3:24.70. That relay time ranks 27th in the NAIA for indoor this year when adjusted for track size to 3;26.70.
His individual 400 time is 46th in the NAIA when adjusted to 50.87 seconds. The Pioneers compete again at the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February on Feb. 6.
