IU East cruises past Tabor in NAIA DII MBB tournament upset, 91-68

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – (Box Score | Bracket) IU East (Ind.) (20-13) becomes the second 7-seed to advance to the second round by defeating No. 2-seed Tabor (Kan.) 91-68.

The Red Wolves jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first seven minutes of the game and never looked back.

IU East used a 10-5 run right before the break to push its lead to 17. That span was the difference at halftime, as the Red Wolves led Tabor 45-28.

The second half was much of the same as IU East continued to push its lead out. The Red Wolves used a 5-0 spurt from the 9:32 mark to the 8:02 mark to extend its lead to a game-high 26 points.

The Blue Jays were not able to overcome the deficit.

IU East was led in scoring by Vasha Davis who scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the three point line.

Davis was joined in double figures by Parker Salinas (19 points), Lucas Huffman (15 points) and Domonique Williams (10 points).

Lance Carter led the Blue Jays in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. D'Marco Smith (12 points) and Davaghndre Jones and John Jedneak – 10 points each – were the only Blue Jays in double figures.

IU East shot 55 percent (34-of-58) from the field and 12-of-23 (52 percent) from behind the 3-point arc.

Tabor shot 44 percent for the game (27-of-61) and 19 percent (4-of-21) from the 3-point arc.

IU East advances to the second round and will take on No. 6-seed Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday at 1:45 p.m.
