Brescia wins KIAC Men's Golf Tournament, advances to NAIAs
FINAL RESULTS
GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Brescia (Ky.) University won the KIAC Men's Golf Tournament championship with a final-round team score of 306 on Saturday to win by four strokes over Point Park (Pa.) University.
The Bearcats were the 36-hole leaders by two shots over Asbury (Ky.) University and three shots over Point Park after play opened on Friday. After opening up with scores of 304 and 305 in the first two rounds, Brescia clinched the conference title with another good round of 306 in the final 18 holes Saturday.
With the victory, Brescia automatically qualifies for the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship May 24-27 at TPC Deere Run in Moline, Ill.
Also qualifying for nationals as the individual conference medalist is Cincinnati Christian's Taylor Suggs, who shot 3-under par for the 54-hole tournament.
Point Park had the best team round of the tournament and led after the first round. That came after a 298 on the first 18 holes. The Pioneers shot 314 in the second round and came up with a 307 in the final round, which was one shot off of Brescia's final-round pace.
Asbury opened up with a 310 and then had its best round of the tournament over the next 18 holes with a 301 to get within two shots of Brescia's 36-hole lead. The Eagles shot 314 the final day.
Indiana East was in third place after 18 holes and finished in fourth. The Red Wolves shot rounds of 303-314-311.
WVU Tech's Matt Ryan placed second overall with a score of 7-over for the 54 holes. CCU had two of the top three individual players with Austin Taylor coming in tied for third at 9-over par with Lance Hackman of Indiana East.
