MOBILE, Ala. - Asbury women's tennis started, then stopped, almost got started again, and then finally were told they'd have to wait a day to played. Then the rain delayed the start, again on Wednesday, a delay in which the Eagles went to work to help get the courts in playing order by helping dry the courts out.
Play finally started around 11 a.m. local time Wednesday as the Eagles started where they left off in doubles play against the NAIA's 10th-ranked team in William Woods (Mo.).
The Eagles found it tough to get things going in the double play. The Owls took all three wins in the doubles competition by identical scores of 8-2. The Eagles went with the lineups of Caitlin Conyers and Sarah Beth Alford at no. 1, Alex LoPrinzi and Emily Ross at no. 2, and Laura Ross and Juleah Morehouse at the no. 3 spot.
At the National Tournament the teams play to completion so with the Eagles down 3-0 the Owls needed just two wins to ground the Eagles and they got those wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. The 1-3 and No. 5 singles matches went unfinished for the final score of 5-0.
Asbury's season effectively ended with the elimination from the first NAIA National Tournament appearance in school history. Their season ends at 9-7 overall which included the team's first-ever KIAC Tournament Championship.
