KIAC sending nine to NAIA Track & Field National Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The KIAC will have nine student-athletes representing its member campuses at the NAIA Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held May 26-28 at Gulf Shores, Ala.

The University of Rio Grande leads the way with seven national qualifiers -- four women and three men. Point Park and WVU Tech have one national qualifier each with women's distance runner Katie Guarnaccia for the Pioneers and men's race-walker Luke Jobson for the Golden Bears.

The Rio Grande men have Nikola Andjelic seeded fifth in the men's decathalon with 6,424 points. He was the KIAC Men's Track & Field MVP this year.

The RedStorm also have thrower Alex Presley competing in two events with a third seed in the shot put (17.79 m) and a 15th seed in the discus (50.09 m). Rio Grande has shot putter Alex Nichols seeded 23rd at nationals at 15.56 meters.

The Rio Grande women's competitors have Tyanna Petty leading the way as the eighth seed in the women's heptathlon. She was the KIAC Women's Track & Field MVP this season.

Rio Grande's performers have double-national qualifier Carrie Corriell seeded 25th in the shot put (13.07 m) and 26th in the hammer throw (47.63 m), Katie Browning seeded 18th in the pole vault (3.50 m) and Niki Worsham seeded 12th in the 5,000 meters (27:24.18).

Point Park's Katie Guarnaccia is seeded ninth of 14 qualifiers in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37 minutes, 31.97 seconds.

WVU Tech's Luke Jobson is the third seed of seven qualifiers in the men's 5,000-meter race walk with a time of 23 minutes, 51.44 seconds.
