No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett too much for No. 25 Asbury at Unaffiliated Tennis Tournament
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - No. 25-ranked Asbury University men's tennis advanced to the NAIA Independent Unaffliated tournament with its appearance in the KIAC Finals match and the Eagles drew the nation's top-ranked team in Georgia Gwinnett in the semifinals on May 6.
No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett started fast, sweeping the doubles play and then picking up two wins in the singles action to get the needed five points and down the Eagles 5-0.
The Grizzlies, historically a top-ranked team in the world of NAIA Tennis, came into the game as the nation's top team and the Eagles, who have spent the entire season in the top-25, came in ranked as the 25th team in the NAIA. The Eagles' have found themselves in the rankings for eight consecutive weeks, an Asbury record for all sports.
Friday morning, though, the Eagles couldn't solve the Grizzlies as they dropped the decision, effectively ending their season. The Eagles should return their entire top-six as none of the players were seniors this season.
