No. 6 Brescia holds on for win over No. 5 Asbury in KIAC Tournament Loser's Bracket

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- No. 6 seed Brescia University took advantage of some defensive miscues by No. 5 Asbury University and then hung on in the ninth inning to win 9-7 in Game #4 of the KIAC Baseball Tournament at Hunter Wright Stadium in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Bearcats scored five unearned runs in the top of the second inning and then added three more unearned runs in the seventh for a seemingly safe 8-1 lead. Asbury, the #5 seed in the tournament, made things interesting with five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Tanner Tow (Fr., LHP/1B, Bedford, Ind.) pitched eight strong innings for Brescia. Tow gave up two runs on nine hits and struck out four Asbury batters to improve his record to 3-7 on the year, and more importantly, keep the Bearcats in the conference tournament.
The Bearcats had 13 hits in the game while Asbury had 15 hits and five costly errors in the game. Colton Hurt (Fr., RF, Woodburn, Ky.) had a game-high four RBI on 2 for 5 at the plate with a run scored and a double. Josh Wetzel (Jr., LF, Metropolis, Ill.) went 3 for 4 with an RBI and scored three Bearcat runs, and Zach Johnson (Fr., 3B, Beaver Dam, Ky.) was 2 for 6 with a pair of runs batted in.
Joe Ivey (Fr., RHP, Nicholasville, Ky.) went five innings and took the loss for Asbury. Ivey (3-6) struck out four and didn't walk a batter while allowing five unearned runs. Shortstop Brady Ast (Fr., Union, Ky.) went 4 for 5 with an RBI to lead the Eagle's offense. Cy Marshall (Fr., CF, Lexington, Ky.) was 2 for 5 with a run scored, and Jon Wilson (Sr., DH, Edmund, Okla.) knocked in two runs and scored a run for Asbury.
Asbury went 0-2 in the tournament and ends the season with a 22-29 overall record. Brescia (12-42) advances in the tournament to play in an elimination game versus No. 2 WVU Tech on Friday at 3 p.m.
