Asbury's Perdue named KIAC Athletic Director of the Year 2015-16
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Asbury University's Mark Perdue has been named the KIAC Athletic Director of the Year 2015-16, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The KIAC Athletic Director of the Year award recognizes the most outstanding athletic director in the conference for service to their campus and conference in a given year. Selected by their peer athletic directors in the conference, the winner is nominated for the NAIA AD of the Year award.
"Mark's selection as our conference Athletic Director of the Year shows how much he is respected and valued amongst his peers in the KIAC" said KIAC Commissioner Scott McClure. "He is a true servant leader both at Asbury University and in our conference, and we all appreciate his leadership and professionalism."
Perdue has been an athletic director on the collegiate level for the past 12 years, the last five of which have come at Asbury. Before that, he was the AD at Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, S.C.
Perdue oversees 17 varsity sports at Asbury, which is one of only two schools in the conference to field varsity teams in all 15 KIAC championship sports .His service to the conference has him as the Vice-Chair and Secretary to the KIAC Board of Athletic Directors. He also serves on the KIAC Membership Committee, the Conference Ratings Oversight Committee and the Ad-Hoc Logo/Branding Committee. the last of which is helping to usher in a re-branding of the KIAC as the River States Conference on July 1, 2016.
It was another strong year for Asbury athletics. The Eagles won the KIAC Tournament championship in women's basketball and won a first-round game at the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship, the latter of which ended a 12-year drought of KIAC women's teams at the national tournament.
Asbury also won a KIAC Tournament championship in women's tennis. The Eagles competed in the NAIA national championship in women's tennis and men's and women's swimming and diving. Asbury scored a conference-high of 149.5 total points in the KIAC Commissioner's Cup race and finished fifth in the standings for average points.
