KOKOMO, Ind. -- The IU Kokomo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee coordinated a Red Cross blood drive on its campus June 30.

The blood drive was one of three that will be put on by the committee this year. In light of recent events, it is even more important. The June 30 blood drive was in honor of all fallen officers. Locally, the Kokomo community had a sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty in April named Carl Koontz.

There were a total of 30 donors on June 30, which is the best ever for a summer blood drive hosted by the committee. With the numerous recent and on-going tragedies around the country, the SAAC wanted to do its part to help.

Addtionally, IU Kokomo student-athlete Brooke Runyon was selected to attend the NAIA/Red Cross Leadership Program, and therefore her experiences have helped with two successful blood drives in the spring and summer.
