NAIA Scholar Teams include 48 Conference Teams for 2015-16
FLORENCE, Ky. -- The 2015-16 NAIA Scholar Teams were released on Friday, July 15 by the NAIA national office. There were a total of 48 teams in the conference that were recognized for having a team grade-point average of 3.00 or higher for the 2015-16 school year.
The KIAC, which changed its name to the River States Conference effective July 1, 2016, was led by the IU East women's basketall team with a conference-best team GPA of 3.57. The University of Rio Grande women's basketball team was next at 3.54.
Point Park (Pa.) University led the conference in total number of NAIA Scholar Teams with nine. Carlow (Pa.) University had the highest percentage of teams make the grade with seven out of the eight Celtics' programs having a 3.00 or better.
Other highlights had IU Kokomo with six out of its seven teams named and Midway with four of its five teams named. IU East had six teams with a 3.00 GPA, WVU Tech garnered five and Brescia and Rio Grande came in with four teams each. IU Southeast had three of its seven teams make the list.
In all, there were 1,590 NAIA Scholar Teams named across the country for 2015-16. The Missouri Baptist women's golf team led the nation with a 3.95 GPA.
