Midway (Ky.) picked on top of River States Conference Women's Golf Preseason Poll 2016-17
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Midway (Ky.) University is picked atop the 2016-17 River States Conference Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll, which predicts the Eagles to defend their conference championship from last year.
Midway returns all five players and three all-conference performers from last year's team, which won the KIAC Tournamament and advanced to the NAIA national tournament. Midway earned six of the eight first-place votes and 48 points in the preseason poll voting of the league's eight women's golf head coaches.
The River States Conference was previously known as the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference until July 1, 2016 when a name change as instituted. The conference's women's golf preseason poll is usually conducted in the spring, but it was moved to the fall season to coincide with the NAIA women's golf preseason polls coming out next week. The RSC and women's golf championships will be held in the spring.
Brescia (Ky.) University was the runner-up at the conference tournament last year and came in second place in the preseason poll. The Bearcats received 42 points in the voting.
Asbury (Ky.) University was tabbed third in the poll with 37 points. IU East was picked fourth with 31 points and has Breanna Nowak returning as the conference medalist from a year ago. Both Asbury and IU East garnered a first-place vote.
Point Park (Pa.) and IU Kokomo are next in the poll in fifth and sixth place with 26 and 18 points, respectively. Ohio Christian was picked seventh with 13 points, and Carlow is eighth with nine points. The women's golf contingent expands to eight teams this year with OCU and Carlow now fielding teams.
River States Conference women's golf will hold its fall preview tournament Sept. 26-27, 2016 and have its spring championship tournament April 24-25, 2017. The team champion and the individual medalist from the spring tournament will advance to the NAIA National Championship.
