Day 1 Recap -- RSC Women's Golf Fall Preview Tournament: Midway leads by 9

RD 1 LEADERBOARD

UNION, Ky. -- Midway (Ky.) University led after 18 holes of the River States Conference Women's Golf Fall Preview Tournament, which began Monday, Sept. 26 at Lassing Pointe Golf Course.

The Eagles shot a team score of 335 over the first 18 holes played Monday to open up a nine-shot lead over IU East (344) and the rest of the field. There were a total of 27 holes played, and there will be 27 more holes played on Tuesday.

A total of eight RSC teams were represented at the tournament, which serves as a fall preview to the the RSC women's golf championship to be held in the spring season.

Midway got out in front thanks to 18-hole individual leader Kathryn Lawler, who fired a first-round 78. She led by two over IU East's Bre Nowak, who opened with an 80.

Rylee Beard of Midway shot 83 to stand in third place, and Lexie Fields (IU East) and Chelsea Schack (Midway) were tied for fourth at 84. Three other players were tied for sixth with an 85, including the top players for Asbury, Brescia and IU Kokomo, who were next in the team standings.
