Chandler Brown repeats as RSC Volleyball Defender of the Week

FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande senior libero Chandler Brown has been named the River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for the second time in a row, this time for her play Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

Brown, from Stockdale, Ohio, racked up 77 digs in four matches on the week for an average of 4.53 per set. She also tallied 11 service aces, 10 of which came in an amazing fifth-set during a 3-2 win over Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at the Point Park Battle of the Boulevard Sept. 2.

Rio Grande won the fifth set over LTU, 15-0. With the score 0-0, Brown went back to serve. She proceeded to serve out the rest of the set in the 3-2 victory that had Rio Grande trail in the match 2-1.

Her week included big matches of 23 digs in a 3-2 loss to Siena Heights (Mich.) and 26 digs in a 3-1 win over Point Park (Pa.) in a non-conference match.

Rio Grande (6-4) visits the Roosevelt (Ill.) Quad Match Sept. 9-10 for its next matches.
