(RV) IU Southeast tops Cincinnati Christian in RSC Game of the Week, 89-76
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Four Grenadiers scored in double figures, and IU Southeast clamped down defensively in the first half en route to a 89-76 win over Cincinnati Christian in the RSC Men's Basketball Game of the Week on Saturday.
Joe Jackson led IU Southeast with 18 points, including 11 in the first half. Tyler Landry had 16 points and nine rebounds. Demetrius Stanton had 15 points, and Jamie Johnson added 10.
The Grenadiers (13-4, 7-1 RSC) shut down the CCU offense in the first half as the Eagles shot 10-of-40 for 25 percent. IU Southeast jumped out to a 20-9 lead and led 48-34 at halftime.
The Eagles (6-13, 3-4 RSC) cut the lead to 68-64 with eight minutes left in the game, but IU Southeast responded with a 21-8 run to seal the victory.
Blake Walsman, Nick Seibert and Kobe Brown each had big second halves for the Eagles to get them back in the game. Walsman scored 14 points, Seibert had 13 and Brown had 11 in the second half. Walsman finished with a game-high 29, and Seibert had 16.
IU Southeast was effective with second-chance points, outscoring the Eagles 17-8.
The Grenadiers increased their lead in the RSC West Division and now stand in first place by 3.0 games over the next closest team. CCU dropped back to fourth place in the division. The Grenadiers are back in action on Friday when they host Carlow University Friday at 8 p.m. CCU's next game is Tuesday at Ohio Christian at 8 p.m.
