Rio Grande's Marcum snags RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Jan. 23-29
FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande forward Brooke Marcum shot 76 percent from the field and surpassed a big milestone to claim River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Jan. 23-29.
Marcum, a 6-0 senior forward from Vinton, Ohio, shot an impressive 22 for 29 from the floor and averaged 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last week. She had a big double-double of 31 points and 13 rebounds and made 12 of 16 field goals in a win over Cincinnati Christian.
She also posted 11 points, 12 rebounds and shot 5 for 7 from the floor in a win over Asbury. Marcum made 5 of 6 baskets and scored 10 points in a losing effort at IU Kokomo.
Marcum surpassed the 1,000-career rebound milestone on the week just recently after also surpassing 1,000 career points earlier in the year. She is averaging 11.2 ppg, 8.7 rpg and shooting 71 percent on the year. Rio Grande (15-8, 7-5 RSC) plays its next game Feb. 1 at Salem International.
