Point Park's Shields repeats as RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

FLORENCE, Ky. -- Point Park University distance runner Anna Shields raced to River States Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Jan. 23-29, her second week in a row winning the award.

Shields, a sophomore from Torrington, Conn., registered two more NAIA national indoor championship event qualifications and established two No. 1 performances in the NAIA at the time of the SPIRE Midwest Open.

She ran the mile in 4:52, which still ranks No. 1 in the NAIA. She also ran the mile-leg of the Pioneers' distance medley relay in 4:52 to help the squad establish the then-No. 1 time in the NAIA at 12 minutes, 12.86 seconds. Shields also ran the 3,000 meters in 9:58 to qualifiy for NAIAs in her sixth event so far this year and move into the No. 2 national ranking in that race.
