WVU Tech beats #18 IU Southeast in RSC Men's Basketball Game of the Week

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech's balanced attack led the Golden Bears past No. 18 Indiana University Southeast, 87-67, in the River States Conference Game of the Week Friday evening in the Baisi Athletic Center. After winning six of their last seven games, WVU Tech boosts its record to 10-5, 4-1 RSC while the Grenadiers dropped to 10-4, 4-1 RSC.

The Gold and Blue are now tied for first with Indiana University East in conference play (East Division) with this victory and at 4-1, IU Southeast is No. 1 with IU Kokomo in the West Division.

WVU Tech had all 12 players on the roster find the basket for some points, including a team-high effort of 20 points from junior Ryan Atkins. Fellow classmate Elisha Boone followed that with 18 points while senior Ra'Shaud Kincaid and junior Kievonn Banks marked 11 each. The team also saw perfect offensive efforts from freshmen Brent Daniels (5 points) and Denzel Marshall (3 points).

On the boards, Boone dominated the game with 11 for his double-double while Banks had the game's next best with nine. Senior Patrick Gnagbo managed a game-high three blocks to go with three points and three rebounds. Kincaid led the way with seven assists.

IU Southeast had the scoring leader in Jamie Johnson with 25 points while Tyler Landry had 16 points and a team-high five rebounds.

WVU Tech finished 29-for-63 (46 percent) from the field while the Grenadiers went 22-for-53 (41.5 percent). Tech also held advantages in rebounds (42-31), forced turnovers (21-12), points off turnovers (24-12) and second chance points (12-8).

The second half was fairly even with WVU Tech putting up 48 points and IU Southeast 44. But WVU Tech staked out to a 39-23 lead at halftime to take control earlier on.

The team will return to action tomorrow, Saturday when they host Brescia University in more conference action. IU Southeast continues its road trip at Rio Grande on Saturday.
