Day 1 Recap -- IU East in 18-hole lead at RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview Tournament

UNION, Ky. -- IU East tied a program-best with a team score of 287 in the first round of the River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview Tournament Monday at Lassing Pointe Golf Course. That gave the Red Wolves the team lead by four shots after the first 18 holes.

There were 27 holes played on Monday with the first nine holes of the second round completed. The 54-hole tournament continues Tuesday with the back nine of the second round followed by the final round of 18 holes. Eleven of the 12 RSC men's golf teams are in standings for what is a preview for the conference championship at the same course in the spring.

IU East's score of 287 in the first round was four-shots better than Asbury University with a 291. The next five teams were separated by just four shots with Point Park University and Midway University tied for third at 301, WVU Tech in fifth at 302 and Brescia University and Ohio Christian University tied for sixth at 305.

IU East's 3-over team score included two of the top four individuals after 18 holes. The Red Wolves' Tyler Pearson shot a 2-under 69 to begin, which was tied for the 18-hole lead with Point Park's Gage Basiletti. IU East's Lance Hackman and Asbury's Michael Troutman were also under par at 1-under 70. Brescia's Daniel Steele and Asbury's Gavin Smith both shot even-par 71 in the first round.
