NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- Asbury University backup goalkeeper Brandon Patterson came up big in a couple of conference shutouts to earn River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 16-22.

A senior from Science Hill, Ky., Patterson came on for shut-out victories of 3-0 over IU East and 2-0 over Ohio Christian to keep the Eagles as one of the top teams in the conference at 5-1-1 RSC. Patterson got the call when AU's starter picked up a red card early in the win versus IU East and also had to miss the game versus OCU.

Patterson made seven saves in 82 minutes versus IU East to preserve the win. There were no saves versus OCU, but he logged all 90 minutes.

Asbury is now 9-4-1 overall, 5-1-1 RSC and in a tie for second place in the conference with its next opponent, WVU Tech. The Eagles host the Golden Bears on Thursday.
