IU Kokomo's Baker receives RSC Volleyball Defender of the Week honor
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- IU Kokomo freshman Nyssa Baker continues to lead the NAIA in total blocks and thus picked up River States Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week for Oct. 16-22. She was the conference's attacker of the week a week ago.
Baker, a 6-0 middle hitter from Fort Wayne, Ind., now has an NAIA-best 154 total blocks after collecting nine total blocks in a 3-0 week for the Cougars. She also added 29 kills and 16 digs in the nine sets played on the week.
Baker tallied five blocks, seven digs and nine kills in a sweep of WVU Tech. She also had three blocks, five digs and nine kills in a 3-0 win versus CCU. Finally, Baker posted one block, four digs and 11 kills in a sweep of Rio Grande.
IU Kokomo has won 16 matches in a row to bump its record to 22-8 overall, 10-0 RSC. The Cougars visit IU Southeast on Tuesday night.
