NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- No. 3-ranked University of Rio Grande claimed the RSC regular-season title with sophomore Deri Corfe scoring 11 points in two games, and thus he has been named the River States Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 23-29.
Corfe, a native of Chester, England, scored three goals and added five assists for a total of 11 points on the week. That came in RSC victories over Cincinnati Christian and Asbury. He led the RedStorm to a final record of 8-0-1 in conference play, the best in the regular season.
Corfe started off with a goal and two assists in a 9-0 win over CCU. That game included a school-record 68 shots by the RedStorm. He followed that up with two goals and three assists for a total of seven points in a 6-1 win over Asbury. He was involved in the scoring in the first five goals of the game.
Rio Grande is 14-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 RSC and will play its next game at home Nov. 8 versus an opponent that is TBA. That will be an RSC Tournament semifinal game after a quarterfinal bye.
