#3 Rio Grande's Guinovart claims RSC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- No. 3-ranked University of Rio Grande had defender Jorge Guinovart lead it to the RSC regular-season title, and he claimed River States Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 23-29 in the process.
Guinovart, a senior from Barcelona, Spain, led the RedStorm defensive unit that allowed just seven total shots in two RSC wins over Asbury and Cincinnati Christian. Rio Grande shutout CCU, 9-0, and then posted a 6-1 win over Asbury to clinch the best conference record in the regular season.
With Guinovart holding down the defense, Rio Grande out-shot the two opponents, 105-7. There were just two shots by CCU and five by Asbury.
Rio Grande is 14-1-1 overall, 8-0-1 RSC and will play its next game at home Nov. 8 versus an opponent that is TBA. That will be an RSC Tournament semifinal game after a quarterfinal bye.
