Rio Grande's Holden picks up RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- University of Rio Grande (Ohio) sophomore Sydney Holden led the RedStorm to a pair of tournament wins to claim River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors for Nov. 20-26.
A 5-9 guard from Wheelersburg, Ohio, Holden averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game as Rio Grande went 2-0 at the NAIA DII Showcase in Kingsport, Tenn., over the weekend. She shot 48 percent from the field (10 for 21) and made five treys.
Holden tallied 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals in a 76-65 win versus Washington Adventist. She then put up 18 points and six rebounds with 4 for 8 from long range and 4 for 4 from the foul line in a 77-76 victory over Georgetown (Ky.).
Rio Grande (8-1) plays its next game at Point Park University in the RSC opener on Wednesday.
