WVU Tech's Shamblin notches RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Feb. 13-19
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Savannah Shamblin had a strong week to make sure that WVU Tech made the playoffs and thus earned River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week Feb. 13-19.
Shamblin, a 5-3 sophomore guard from Cross Lanes, W.Va., led WVU Tech to a 3-0 week by averaging 18.0 points and 5.7 assists per game. She shot 54 percent from the floor (20 for 37) and 61 percent (11 for 18) from long range.
The highlight of the week was 25 points and 9 assists in a playoff-clinching win over Point Park on Saturday. That game included shooting 9 of 15 overall and 5 of 8 from the outside.
She started the week with 16 points, five assists and three treys in a win at Bluefield State. Shamblin then had 13 points, three assists and another three treys in a win over Carlow.
Shamblin leads WVU Tech with 14.4 ppg. The Golden Bears (19-11, 10-7 RSC) are the No. 3 seed out of the RSC East Division opening the RSC Women's Basketball Tournament Feb. 22 at Midway University, the No. 2 seed from the RSC West.
