CCU seniors lead Eagles to #RSCgotw Men's Basketball win over (RV) IU Southeast
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati Christian University seniors Nick Seibert and Khari Burton had huge games to lead the Eagles in a Senior Day victory over (RV) IU Southeast, 95-76, in the River States Conference Men's Basketball Game of the Week on Saturday.
Seibert put up 21 points and eight rebounds while Burton tallied 20 points and eight assists. Both players made a couple of 3-pointers. CCU took control of the game with a big first half to lead 50-28 at the break.
The Eagles connected on 14 treys in all -- seven in each half -- and they made 7 of 13 from beyond the arc the first 20 minutes to get out to the big lead. Kobe Brown was the biggest threat from the perimeter making 5 of 7 from deep for 15 points.
CCU also had bench production with 16 points from Blake Walsman and 14 points on 4 of 6 treys from Malik Suba.
With the win, CCU (9-16, 6-7 RSC) maintains its spot in fourth place in the RSC West Division, the same place it started the day. The Eagles are ahold of the final playoff spot out of the West.
IU Southeast (18-5, 12-2 RSC) was handed just its second conference loss of the season and the first one within the West Division. The Grenadiers entered the day with a chance to clinch the division with a win. Even though they lost, the Grenadiers are now guarnateed first place due to Asbury's loss on Saturday. Asbury and Alice Lloyd, both 7-7 RSC, are the next closest teams but five games back with four to play.
In a big hole at the half, IU Southeast made a go of a comeback led by guards Jamie Johnson and Demetrius Stanton, who finished with 19 and 17 points, respectively. The Grenadiers also had inside presence with Robert Sawyer (12 points) and Joe Jackson (10 points & 14 rebounds) helping them lead 40-22 in points in the paint.
CCU won the turnover battle forcing 21 of them and holding a 21-12 edge in points off turnovers.
Both teams play again on Tuesday with CCU at IU Kokomo and IU Southeast home to Alice Lloyd.
