Rio Grande's Baines picks up RSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande guard Sharday Baines averaged 21.0 points per game in two victories Jan. 30-Feb. 5 to pick up River States Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors.

A 5-6 senior from East Cleveland, Ohio, Baines scored a combined 42 points in road victories over Salem International and WVU Tech. Leading Rio Grande to a 2-0 week, she also had 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, made 4 of 10 3-pointers and 24 of 26 free throws for 92 percent.

Baines began with 23 points, three treys and a perfect 12 for 12 from the foul line in the 106-91 win at Salem International. She continued with 19 points, five rebounds and six assists in a big win at WVU Tech, 82-74, the RSC Game of the Week. Baines was 12 for 14 from the foul line there.

She leads the RedStorm with 12.8 points per game and 50 made 3-pointers on the year. Rio Grande has won five of its last six games and three in a row to have its record at 17-9 overall, 8-5 RSC entering the next game Feb. 7 at home versus No. 21 IU East.
