Point Park's Shields makes it three in a row for RSC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Point Park University's Anna Shields claimed River States Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 5, the third week in a row she has won the honor.
Shields earned her most-recent accolade by shaving 20 seconds off her already NAIA No. 1-ranked time in the 5,000 meters. Shields ran the 5K in 17 minutes, 12 seconds on Feb. 3 at the Youngstown State University National Invitational. She placed second in the event at YSU and beat many NCAA Division I runners.
Shields has qualified for the NAIA indoor national championship meet in six events so far this year. She is highly ranked in the NAIA in all of those events as follows: No. 1 in the 1,000 meters, mile and 5,000 meters; No. 2 in the 3,000 meters and distance medley relay; and third in the 800 meters.
