Rio Grande's Jones 1-hits her way to RSC Softball Pitcher of the Week
FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande senior Jenna Jones threw a pair of 1-hitters last week and thus was named River States Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for March 20-26.
Jones, from Lancaster, Ohio, shut out Ohio Christian in a 6-0 victory to start her week. She racked up six strikeouts, two walks and gave up just the one hit in seven innings. She then limited Cincinnati Christian to one hit in a 10-2 victory, which was shortened to five innings due to the run rule. Neither of the runs by CCU was earned.
Jones is 4-3 with a 2.25 ERA in 12 outings (eight starts). Opponents are hitting just .184 off of Jones, who has strung together in her last four starts a two-hitter, a no-hitter and two 1-hitters.
Rio Grande (20-6, 4-0 RSC) is ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Softball Top 25 and has its next games March 31 at home versus IU Southeast.
