Rio Grande's Skeese claims RSC Softball Player of the Week accolade

FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande outfielder Carly Skeese clubbed five homers in six games last week to claim River States Conference Softball Player of the Week for April 17-23.

Skeese, a sophomore from Newark, Ohio, had five of her seven hits on the week go over the fence as the RedStorm went 5-1 overall and 3-1 in RSC action. Skeese hit .318 with nine RBIs on the week.

She was 4 for 8 with three home runs and five RBIs during a doubleheader sweep at Shawnee State. She picked up two more home runs and four more RBIs during a weekend trip to play at Point Park and Carlow.

Skeese leads the RSC in home runs with 13 and RBIs with 50. She is hitting .341 for the season and ranks No. 9 in the NAIA in homers. Rio Grande (37-7, 15-1 RSC) is ranked No. 19 in the NAIA and hosts Shawnee State for its next games April 25.
