Day 1 Recap: Midway leads RSC Women's Golf Tournament after 27 Holes

UNION, Ky. -- After Day 1 of the River States Conference Women's Golf Tournament, Midway (Ky.) University leads by 21 shots after the 27 holes played Monday at Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. The tournament continues Tuesday with the final 27 holes, which includes the completion of the second round and the final round of 18 holes.

Midway shot a team score of 347 in the first round on Monday. That put the Eagles in first place by three shots over Asbury, which shot 350, and by eight shots over IU East, which shot 355, over the first 18 holes. In the first half of the second round, Midway's lead exploded to 21 shots at the halfway point of the tournament.

Through 27 holes, Midway is at 81-over par, IU East is in second place at 102-over par and Asbury is third at 105-over par. IU Kokomo (+146) and Brescia (+152) round out the top five teams on the leaderboard. For the complete standings after Day 1, click the link above for team and player standings through 27 holes. Midway has three of the top five players on the individual leaderboard with the Eagles' Hannah Scroggins tied with IU East's Bre Nowak for first place after 27 holes. Both players shot 84 in the first round, and both are 18-over halfway through the tournament.

Midway's Kathryn Lawler and Asbury's Hannah Griffith are tied for third at 20-over. Griffith led after 18 holes with an opening 82. Cheslea Schack of Midway is fifth at 22-over, and IU East's Lexie Fields and Midway's Amanda Cox are two shots back at 24-over.

The RSC women's golf team champion and the individual medalist will qualify automatically to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship May 23-26 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
