BECKLEY, W.Va. -- First-place IU Southeast travels to WVU Tech this weekend for the River States Conference Baseball Games of the Week. It is a key series as the RSC baseball schedule hits the home stretch for the final four weeks of the regular season.
IU Southeast (24-7, 13-3 RSC) begins the weekend leading the conference in RSC winning percentage and riding an 11-game win streak. The Grenadiers are currently "receiving votes" in the NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll and just outside the rankings at No. 27 in the country.
WVU Tech (18-20, 11-9 RSC) has played maybe the toughest schedule of games thus far in the conference. When the Golden Bears complete the series versus IU Southeast, they will have played each of the of the top four teams in the current standings -- IU Southeast, Midway, Point Park and Rio Grande.
The series will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9 at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, W.Va. IU Southeast swept Brescia (Ky.) in its conference series last weekend. The Grenadiers have not lost since March 19 versus Rio Grande, although the Grenadiers won three of four games in that series. Logan Barnes has the highest batting average on the team at .373. Next are Cody Maloon at .348 and Hector Marmol at .343. The Grenadiers' pitching staff has Ryne Underwood (4-1, 3.08 ERA) on the front end and Gage Rogers (1-0, 1.32 ERA, 6 SV) on the backend.
WVU Tech is third in the conference hitting with a .287 team batting average. Tanner Levine is the top bat coming in at .391 with three home runs and 25 RBIs. Jacob Reimold has also been productive at .343 with three homers and 22 RBIs. Starters Jerod Jobst (4-1) and Chris Davidson (4-2) lead the staff in wins, and reliever Garrison Vandeventer (1-3, 3.97 ERA) has six saves.
