IU Southeast takes No. 4 seed in Hattiesburg (Miss.) for NAIA Softball Opening Round
NEW ALBANY, Ind. -- IU Southeast is once again in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round, and the Grenadiers have earned the No. 4 seed in the Hattiesburg (Miss.) Bracket beginning Monday, May 15. IU Southeast qualified for the national tournament as River States Conference Tournament runner-up to No. 17 Rio Grande.
IU Southeast (28-21) plays No. 1 seed William Carey (Miss.) (42-9) on May 15 at 1:30 p.m. for its first game of the tournament. William Carey is ranked No. 7 in the final NAIA Softball Top 25 Poll. The opening game of the Hattiesburg Bracket features No. 2 seed Southern Oregon (40-12) versus No. 3 Southeastern (Fla.) (41-15) at 11 a.m.
The Hattiesburg Bracket is a challenging one with three teams with 40 victories and three NAIA Top 25 teams -- No. 7 William Carey, No. 20 Southern Oregon and No. 22 Southeastern. Hattiesburg is one of 10 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round sites around the nation. The 10 bracket winners will advance to the NAIA Softball World Series May 28-June 2 at Clermont, Fla.
The Hattiesburg Bracket continues on Tuesday, May 16 with the winner's bracket game and a couple of elimination games. The championship round is Wednesday, May 17.
