MIDWAY, Ky. -- The wait is finally over and now that the brackets have been released, the Midway University baseball team is headed to Lima, Ohio for the Lima Bracket in the 2017 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.
The NAIA officially announced the 45-team event through their YouTube Channel on Thursday afternoon. The NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round will take place from May 15-18 at various locations.
The format of the NAIA Opening Round is a five-team double-elimination tournament with the winners of each bracket advancing to the 2017 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
When the brackets were released, the Eagles were tabbed as the No. 5 seed in the Lima Bracket hosted by the University of Northwestern Ohio. Midway earned their bid to the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round by winning the River States Conference Tournament.
The remainder of the Lima Bracket sees the No. 1 seed University of Northwestern Ohio, No. 2 seed Middle Georgia State University, No. 3 seed Hope International (Calif.) and the No. 4 seed MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.).
In their opening round matchup the Eagles will take on MidAmerica Nazarene (34-18) on Monday, May 15 at 9 a.m. ET. The winner of that game plays later that day at 4 p.m. ET against the top-seed, UNOH (43-10).
The other opening round matchup plates Hope International (32-16) against Middle Georgia State (43-14). Game time between the Royals and the Knights is set for 12:30 p.m. ET.
Live stats and live video will be provided – along with audio commentary – by the University of Northwestern Ohio for all games in the Lima Bracket.
All games will take place at Racers Field at the St. Rita's Sports Complex on the campus of UNOH. In the case of a postponement due to weather or games needing to be played at night, the event will move to Montgomery Field in Celina, Ohio.
Admission per day will be $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tournament passes will also be available at the gate for $12 for adults and $10 for students.
