Rio Grande's Flores wins RSC Baseball Player of the Week April 24-30
FLORENCE, Ky. -- University of Rio Grande outfielder Carlos Flores hit .579 with three homers in six games last week to win River States Conference Baseball Player of the Week honors from April 24-30.
The senior from Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, had 11 hits in 19 at bats. He also scored nine runs, stole two bases in three tries and picked up three walks as Rio Grande went 5-1 overall and 4-0 RSC to lock up the conference's No. 3 playoff seed.
Flores had five hits, a homer and three RBIs in a doubleheader split versus Pikeville (Ky.). He then compiled six hits in 12 at bats in the four-game sweep of Asbury. The final game was a highlight as he went 2 for 2 with two homers and four RBIs.
Flores is hitting .338 with eight home runs and 39 RBIs on the year. Rio Grande (33-17-1, 24-7-1 RSC) plays its next game at the RSC Baseball Tournament May 5-9 at Chillicothe, Ohio, and VA Memorial Stadium.
