GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The River States Conference claimed six NAIA All-American honors during the women's competition of the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held this weekend at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Individual qualification to nationals was achieved by reaching the NAIA qualifying standard during regular-season meets. The national championship was conducted May 25-27 with final day and many of the finals on Saturday. The top eight finishers in each event earned NAIA All-American honors.
Point Park University's Anna Shields headlined the conference's competitors by winning the NAIA national championship in the 1500 meters and then following that up by finishing second in the 800 meters less than two hours later. Shields earned NAIA All-American honors in both events.
Ohio Christian's Ariel Young was also a double NAIA All-American claiming fourth place in the marathon on Saturday just two days after taking seventh in the 10,000 meters on Thursday. OCU's Zarria Williams placed sixth in the long jump to earn NAIA All-American.
WVU Tech's Ivy Aleshire also competed in the marathon and finished eighth for NAIA All-American status.
