2017 All-River States Conference Men's Tennis Teams Announced
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- The 2017 All-River States Conference Men's Tennis Teams & Awards have been announced, and they were handed out last weekend at the conference championship tournament held at the Freeman Lake Courts in Elizabethtown, Ky.
RSC champion Asbury (Ky.) University and runner-up IU Southeast dominated the awards. Voting was conducted by the River States Conference men;s tennis head coaches.
Asbury claimed three of the four big, individual awards and also six of the 12 spots on the all-conference teams. The Eagles registered four of the six placements on the All-River States Conference First Team led by RSC Player of the Year Joshua Turnquest. RSC Newcomer of the Year honors also went to Turnquest, a freshman from the Bahamas who was the top player for the Eagles and led them to the championship.
Asbury's Jarred Miller won RSC Coach of the Year honors. He has led the Eagles to a record of 16-1 overall, 5-0 RSC and another conference title. Asbury is "receiving votes" in the NAIA Men's Tennis Top 25 and is headed to the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship.
RSC Comeback Player of the Year went to Fernando Garcia of Brescia, who returned from an ACL injury that kept him out last year.
There were four players named to each of the All-RSC First and Second Teams. Asbury's four spots on the All-RSC First Team were Turnquest, Joshua Abraham, Julian Tellez and Ty Abraham. The Eagles also garnered Deuce Gibson and Aquille Trotman on the All-RSC Second Team.
IU Southeast put two players on the All-RSC First Team with Brock Winchell and Jonathan James named. The Grenadiers had All-RSC Second Team honors go to Garrett Fensler, Chris Braun and Bryson Mills.
Brescia's Hector Horcayada was named to the All-RSC Second Team.
The All-RSC Men's Tennis honorees will have their names forwarded to thte national ballott for consideration for NAIA Men's Tennis All-American.
